Twenty years after it was first laid by Dura-Sport, our outdoor practice facility at our Mill Lane home has been refurbished thanks to donations from the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund, friends of the club and contractor Dura-Sport.
The club identified the need for a refurbishment and our ground facilities lead, Paul Tompkins, reached out to Tarmac for funding towards the project. “Tarmac were really receptive from the outset”, said Tompkins. “We’re hugely grateful to them for donating £9,200 towards the refurbishment, through the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund.”
The project saw the complete replacement and upgrade of the underlays, which will provide a more consistent performance, and the practice surfaces were also replaced with the latest technology, which replicates the look, feel and performance of a grass wicket.
“We are also hugely grateful to several longstanding supporters of the club for their donations towards the project,” Tompkins added. “As well as our thanks to Dura-Sport for completing the work so quickly and efficiently. This will have huge benefits to our club for many years to come.”
The work on the facility was carried out during April and the facility was ready for the beginning of the new season.
The Landfill Communities Fund was established by the Government in 1996. It enables landfill operators to donate part of their annual tax liability to enrolled Environmental Bodies for a variety of approved community and environmental projects. Through the fund, Tarmac donates around £1 million to projects each year. For more information, visit entrust.org.uk or email mdet@derbyshire.gov.uk
