A five wicket haul, including a hat-trick, from teenager Sam Davies helped the 3s book their place in their fourth consecutive Challenge Cup final.

The right-arm seam bowler came to the fore in the 18th over with City Cricketers well set at 67 for 1. Davies cleaned up Balvant Suraj (21), repeated the trick the very next ball to dismiss Himansu Raut (0) and then had Chaitanya Raut (0) caught in the gully by Asim Khan to send his teammates into raptures. He was also within fractions of picking up four in four as a tight leg before call went the way of the batting side.

The intervention from Davies helped checked the momentum from the visitors and sparked a mid-inning struggle as the Sileby bowlers took charge of the game to dismiss City Cricketers for 129.

Davies would pick up his fourth wicket in his next over but would be made to wait until the first over of his second spell to complete his maiden five-wicket haul when he bowled Nisarg Mangela as he finished with impressive figures of 8-1-30-5.

Two early wickets made sure that Sileby weren't going to have it all their own way but a rearguard from the experienced pair of Will Rossiter and skipper Danny Hill took the sting out of the City Cricketers attack as they gradually laid a solid foundation for the innings.

The pair added a patient 31 before Rossiter's dismissal for 20 brought Mikey Phillips to the crease, with the right-hander joining his skipper in a stand of 66 to take them to within sight of victory.

Hill's departure for 37 wasn't enough to derail his sides victory charge with Phillips completing his fifty before departing for 52 with just a handful of runs needed.

The five wicket win sees the Thirds to their fourth consecutive Challenge Cup final, winning the previous three, where they will face off against first time finalists Blaby Village. The date and the venue for the final is still to be confirmed.
