New ground broken with 13s softball side

Even before the 2025 season had reached its climax, our Mill Lane home had already started to receive a bit of a facelift as the prep work began for a £400,000 extension and enhancement to our facilities to help us further our offering for players of all ages and genders.

The focus of the redevelopment was geared around ensuring that our main pavilion matched our second one in having extra changing facilities for women and girls wanting to play mixed cricket.

Following on from some fantastic work by our Fundraising Committee as well as a huge amount of work from the Project Lead, Chris Preston, and other members of the club to source grants and materials we were delighted to be able to open the facility last month with the Chair of the Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket League, Chris Pople, cutting the ribbon.

Roll forward a few weeks and the fruits of the hard graft came to fruition as our Under 13s Girls took on Ibstock's Under 13s Girls in a softball contest on the main field.

Fittingly, our Girls took home the spoils by 26 runs in a keenly fought contest.

Our commitment to furthering opportunities for girls extends beyond the Under 13s softball as we're also rolling out a Girls Dynamos programme for the first time and we're looking to build on a strong current side and grow our own First XI players, for both the mixed and women's sides, of the future.

The Dynamos programme caters for girls from 8-11 years of age while we also have that running alongside a mixed Dynamos group as well as our mixed All Stars sessions, with all three running from 6-7pm on a Friday evening, beginning on Friday 8 May.

If your daughter is interested in giving one of the fastest growing participation sports for girls a try, we'd love to hear from you. You can contact our Head of Women and Girls Cricket, Lauren Ellis, at laurenellis@silebytown.co.uk
