Micky Ruddle and Chris Yates both hit fifties in a warm up match in freezing conditions at Mill Lane

The pair starred as Team Hill and Team Ingram squared off as the build up towards the 2021 Leicestershire & Rutland League season gathered apace.

Ruddle got the first chance to impress as part of Team Hill having been asked to bat first as he helped his side post 146 from their 30 overs - Ruddle making 54 from 42 balls (six fours, two sixes) before retiring.

Mikey Phillips hit five fours in his 23 and Matt Houghton made an unbeaten 18 as their side set a competitive total.

George Bolton (2-28) picked up a pair of scalps while Will Wade (1-19) and Steven Ingram (1-13) picked up a wicket apiece.

The second innings was a far cry from that of the first with Yates ploughing a lone furrow with 66 (nine fours, one six) as nobody else for Team Ingram managed to make it to double figures as they folded for 103.

The wickets were shared around with Luke Hands (3-12), Thomas Blay (3-11), Nathan Preston (2-6) and Jacob Smith (2-16) all registering scalps.

The full scorecard is available here.

The final stages of the build up to the league season concludes next weekend with the 1s welcoming Plumtree to Mill Lane, the Threes host Cropston while the Seconds travel to Ibstock (all on Saturday) and the Fours welcome Walton-le-Wolds on Sunday.
