Wins for the First, Thirds and Fourths as the curtain went up on the new season.

There were some significant contributions along the way with two five-wicket hauls, a century and three half-centuries came on the opening day.

The Firsts kicked things off with a comfortable seven wicket win over Loughborough Town in the unfamiliar surroundings of Loughborough Grammar school. The home side won the toss and elected to bat.

Jake Gillett, who is more familiar to Sileby supporters for his exploits with the bat, bagged his first five wicket haul bowling seam up as Loughborough were bowled out for 160 with 15 overs still in the bank.

Gillett's 5-47, with all five scalps being caught, was his first five-fer since returning from Thorpe Arnold and his second for the club overall. He was well supported by Ajay Khunti (3-30), whose day would get even better with the bat, and the ever-reliable Matt Ellis (2-22) with Nick Green being one of two men to make it to double figures with a 98-ball 101.

Sileby's reply with the bat stuttered with Dave Torr (7) and Gillett (2) back in the hutch with 32 on the board. However, a match winning stand of 107 between Khunti and Chris Bulmer (52) saw their side to the cusp of victory, only for Bulmer to be stumped with two runs needed. His 52 came from 56 balls with seven fours and a six.

Khunti, on the other hand, followed up his half-century in the friendly against Plumtree with a blistering unbeaten 90 from 60 balls with 13 fours and three maximums as his side cantered to a seven wicket win with 28 overs and four balls to spare.

The Firsts have home comforts next weekend as they host Kibworth at Mill Lane. Kibworth (365 for 5) also picked up an opening round win with centuries from Josh Cobb and Matt Craven helping them to a big win on the road at Leicester Ivanhoe (93 all out).

It was a nail biter at Mill Lane as the Seconds succumbed to a two run defeat at the hands of Billesdon Firsts.

It was a tough day at the office early on as the visitors opening pair of James Nourish and Tom Miles posted 48 for the opening wicket with off-spinner Thomas Blay (1-43) being called on to break the opening stand.

A second wicket stand of 81 between Tom Miles (73) and Tim Harrison (32) saw Billesdon to 129 for 1 before Sileby skipper Steven Ingram broke the partnership and started a collapse that saw the visitors lose nine wickets for 41 runs with the left armer bagging 6-23 while another left armer, winter signing from Kegworth Will Wade picked up 2-22 as Billesdon were dismissed for 170 from the final ball of their last over.

Sileby's reply stuttered as they slipped to 27 for 3 before Sean Dudley (26) and Dan Tompkins (30) added 52 for the fourth wicket and Tompkins and Mo Khan (43) added 35 for the fifth but the regular loss of wickets was hampering Sileby's challenge.

Things looked to be more within their grasp with Khan and Jordan King together at the crease and with 20 runs needed within the final four overs with four wickets in hand the odds looked good for a home win.

However, King's dismissal (stumped for five) sparked a collapse as three of the final four wickets slipped away quickly, leaving 14 runs needed from the final over with one wicket remaining.

Khan and Wade (4 not out) picked up 11 from the first four balls of the final Chris Elliot (1-42) over only for Khan to be cleaned up from the fifth with his side falling agonisingly short on 168 all out. They do, however, pick up 14 points for their efforts.

The Seconds travel to face Houghton & Thurnby next weekend, with their hosts sitting one point better off after suffering heartbreak of their own in a 113 all out tie against Shree Sanatan.

In the first of the Wigston Town double headers, the Threes came away with a comfortable 52 run win having been asked to bat first.

Their 156 all out was centred around 92 from Robert Scullion (113 balls, nine fours) with the right hander being only one of three players to make it into double figures.

He shared in stands of 39 with Will Rossiter (16) and 58 with Matt Houghton (14) as the visitors posted 156 for 9 from their 40 overs on a difficult track.

Luke Hands (3-13) continued his good early season form and was well backed up by George Bolton (3-19), Chris Preston (2-14) and Nathan Preston (2-22) as only opener Steve Brooks (41) and number ten Jonny Lawrence-Owen (14) made it to double figures en-route to being dismissed for 104 with three balls of their 40 overs remaining.

Danny Hill's men welcome Great Glen to Mill Lane next weekend, with their opponents also having picked up 25 points having made 231 for 8 at Cosby before bowling their hosts out for 114.

Finally, the Fourths were handed first use of a belting batting deck at Mill Lane as Stephen Loveridge's unbeaten 125 from 135 balls went a long way to helping his side post 218 for 2 from their 40 overs.

The right hander posted an opening partnership of 108 with teenager Joe Davies (43 from 66 balls, four fours) and 82 with Matt Sharpe (25 from 21 balls, four fours) as only visiting skipper Andy Jones (2-19) provided any control on a flat wicket with a lightning quick outfield.

Bhavanshu Dilip (34) rode his luck on his way to 34 before playing one loose shot too many to pick out Ben Lewin at midwicket to give Sileby the breakthrough (49 for 1) and arrest a sloppy start from the home side.

From there on the home side turned the screw and wickets fell regularly with wickets shared around the bowlers.

Albert Blay piked up 3-16, Josh Cundy 3-18 while there was a brace of wickets for skipper Dave King (2-32) and Sam Davies (2-51) as they made light work of the Wigston Seconds middle order, as they slipped from 49 for no loss to 82 for eight.

Jones held things up with an unbeaten 32 but he couldn't stop the Fours from picking up the full 25 points with over 13 overs to spare.
