Seconds round of season with title securing win

A final day win over Asian Sports sealed the 2s return to Division One after a five year hiatus.

The margin of victory was narrow, with two runs seemingly being in vogue after Leicestershire's victory over Hampshire up the road at Trent Bridge, but the repercussions of it were massive - at both ends of the table.

The defeat sent Asian Sports, unexpectedly, through the Division Two trap door while at the other end the win capped off a run of five wins on the bounce that saw them move from third spot to top - a position that they wouldn't let go of down the stretch.

A fourth fifty of the year from Brady Glennon underpinned the Twos 188 for 6 - his 51 coming from 73 balls. The right hander would later secure the batting trophy at the annual awards night, being their leading run scorer with 569 runs at a shade under 38.

The rest of the batting order chipped in as they posted a competitive, but not secure, total on the Leicester Road pitch - the former home of Hinckley Town.

In reply, Asian Sports were dealt a double early blow with Nathan Preston and Steven Ingram making early incisions. The pair would go on to pick up another wicket apiece as the pair finished with 2-23 and 2-56 respectively.

The home side struggled to get any concerted momentum as they lost wickets just as a partnership was being established. Their only meaningful partnership was the unbroken stand of 64 for the ninth wicket between Vinit Damania (28 not out) and Kamlesh Mahendra (40 not out) as the pair threatened to steal victory.

A nail biting finish ended with them finishing three runs short of victory, garnering 12 points for their efforts - four points from safety following Hinckley Amateur's six point haul from their defeat to runners up, Barwell and Newtown Linford 2s near blowout win over Shree Sanatan.

The win for Barwell was equally as welcome for them as they held off Kirby Muxloe, who also won against already relegated Enderby - the gap a mere five points between Barwell and Kirby - to seal the second promotion spot to Division One.
